It has been an incredibly challenging 12 months for our community and we at the Resolven Miners Welfare have tried to show support and solidarity with the nation through this difficult time.

As we are all aware, community buildings and businesses alike have had to close their doors to combat the spread of Covid-19. Therefore, it has been a struggle to support the community in familiar ways, however with the whole nation showing support through projects like NHS Heroes and a weekly appreciation (clapping) for key workers we were able to light up the building in different colours in solidarity with those across the country in recognition of multiple schemes.

The building was turned blue to show support for all the NHS and key workers in the country. Every single individual who put the needs of others first to keep key services running during such difficult times deserve our thanks and deep appreciation and we salute you!

Working with the Welfare Ladies Coffee Morning Group, the building was decorated with poppies and turned red in support of Remembrance Day 2020.

Most recently, the National Day of Reflection turned our building yellow, recognising the turmoil of the last year and those who have lost ones. It was emotional to see so many yellow hearts and daffodils in the windows of residents and businesses throughout Resolven and surrounding areas.
