Everyone knows how hard it has been for all businesses during the past year and we at the Resolven Miners Welfare have strived to ensure that our building remains open for the community and functional post COVID lockdown restrictions.
Right at the start of the COVID pandemic, many of the residents in our community would have been aware of a grand restoration plan for our building. We were ready to submit applications for funding to enhance and deliver new services and facilities at our building however, COVID had other plans.
During the first lockdown we had to halt our work to restore the building to ensure that there was a functioning building post COVID. We ensured that staff were put onto the government furlough scheme and continued as best we could to continue with the works that were already underway which included a new floor in the main hall, community kitchen and offering a new restaurant facility.
With all this work being carried out during the pandemic the trustees were still trying to obtain funding for other jobs at the building which included new roofs, a new boiler and lots of other essential maintenance work.
We hope that the coming months will be less stressful with the possible lifting of restrictions so the charity will once again be able to focus on obtaining funding for other projects at the building. These projects include opening a restaurant and community/commercial kitchen, reopening the main hall following a major leak under the floor, obtain funding for a full feasibility study to help gain future funding and more!
